When candida or thrush is out of control…What natural options can we turn to?…

herbs to help candidaCandida is a yeast-like organism which infects warm damp areas such as the mouth, the intestines and the vagina. The candida thrives in an acidic environment and so a person needs to bring balance into their system as soon as possible.

Did you know that sugar has an acidic effect on our body? The more sugar we eat, the more acid our body produces. Another important piece of information is that carbohydrates get broken down in the body to form certain sugars, therefore having an acidic effect on the body. Because of this, if a person finds herself or himself with a bad case of candida, stop the sugars and carbohydrates. Eat more leafy greens, seeds, nuts and other vegetables.

There are herbs that can help specifically with thrush and related bladder infections:-

Make up a tea from one of the following herbs and use as an external douche: calendula, comfrey or calendulaplantain. You could also add calendula tincture to cooled boiled water and douche with that. Calendula contains anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties.

Buchu: lessens inflammation in the vagina and acts as a diuretic. It is also good for bladder infections

burdock root

Burdock root: aids in the elimination of excess fluid, uric acid and toxins. It has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. This can be taken as a tincture. If you want to rather use it as a tea, the roots need to be boiled for at least 20 minutes to release the active properties/ingredients.

rosehip and hibiscus dried

Rosehips: Good for bladder problems and all infections. And of course it makes a delicious tea and is a pleasure to drink.
