Floral waters…Body sprays…Spritzers…Hydrosols…So many names for such healing, helpful waters…

Floral watersWe have decided to change the packaging of our hydrosols to make them more user-friendly. I personally use hydrosols in all my personal care products. My absolute favourite is the lavender because of its soothing properties, but take a read for yourself….

Hydrosols, also known as floral waters, hydroflorates, flower waters or distillates are products from steam distilling plant materials. Hydrosols are like essential oils but in far less of a concentration. When a distiller brews plant material with water in a large cooker the steam fills the pot and, as it rises, it causes the glands of the plants to burst and release the oils and essence of the plant into the steam. The oil rises through a condenser and collects in a separate vessel. This is what we know as essential oil, but what about all that fragrant water that was steamed with the original plant material? That is our hydrosol, or floral water.
Hydrosols are usually the result of essential oil production as a by-product but the highest quality hydrosols come from the devoted distillers who, with artist like precision steam the floral and plant material strictly to produce a hydrosol. (Just try our Rose water and you’ll know what I mean).

Floral / Herbal sprays

Chamomile RomanChamomile hydrosol (The water recovered from the distillation process of Anthemis nobilis).
The soothing, calming and relaxing properties of Chamomile are easy to experience in this floral water.
Perfect for use as a skin toner and cleanser – just add to a cotton pad and gently wipe on your face. It’s a good makeup remover too.
Roman Chamomile Hydrosol is extraordinarily valuable … soothing and relaxing. I know of nothing better to sooth dry, flaky, itchy skin, rashes, acne, eczema, etc. Skin problems including the mucus membranes, including mouth, gums, respiratory tract and anal and genital areas may safely be treated with this gentle and relaxing anti-inflammatory. Roman Chamomile water has been especially recommended for skin care for delicate complexions with allergic tendencies. A mild astringent, it is an excellent skin toner, but probably should not be used over the long term by very dry skin. Its astringency would benefit oily or inflamed skin.
Roman Chamomile is also known for its calming, almost sedative qualities. A spritz of Roman Chamomile Hydrosol in the air can calm those jangled nerves or calm those ‘terrible two’s’.
MasonnRoseRose hydrosol (The water recovered from the distillation process of Rosa damascena essential oil).
I love the rose water as a general spritz when I am feeling in need of calming. Rosewater has been used through the milleniums for religious ceremonies, as a courtesy to guests, for physical, emotional, and spiritual healing.
Rose Hydrosol is wonderful in homemade skin care products. It can be used by itself as a toner, used to moisten a mask, or used in place of water in lotions or cosmetics recipes. Rosewater stimulates the skin, heightening the blood flow. Experts disagree about using it on extraordinarily sensitive skin. Rosewater controls and balances sebum production, making it useful for both dry and oily skin. It can balance and restore the skin’s PH and helps tighten pores. Its antibacterial properties help fight acne giving troubled skin a gentle, rather than a harsh treatment. It is reputed to be useful in the treatment of all sorts of dermatitis.
Rose Hydrosol is a wonderful woman’s tool for healing. It may be used externally, as a facial or body spray, or in a compress.
