Why first aid and CPR in a blog about herbs and oils?

“The Scream” Edvard Munch

A while ago, Christine and I were at a market chatting with customers when a fire broke out at one of the stalls. All I saw were the flames and immediately presumed that a person was on fire. I froze…could not move, except to put my hands up at my face in a very bad version of Edvard Munch’s “Scream”. On the other hand, Christine calmly walked towards the chaos thinking of what first aid she may need to administer.

After the event-which turned out to be very minor by the way-we sat and chatted about our different reactions to the situation. Other than the obvious “Fight, flight or freeze”  reaction that each of us goes to in a time of crisis, Christine had learnt first aid and had a first aiders knowledge of what might be needed, I did not.

Since this event, a very generous Reiki student of mine gifted me by paying for me to go on a First Aid Level 1 Course. What a gift and what an empowering feeling to know that in an emergency, I may be able to offer basic help. As Bobby Sherman says: “Take some time to learn first aid and CPR. It saves lives and it works.”

Lots of love
