Essential Oils and Pregnancy

pregnant and seaEssential oils that can safely be used during pregnancy
Tangerine, Mandarin, Grapefruit, Geranium, Chamomile Roman, Rose Bulgar, Rose Maroc, Jasmin, Ylang Ylang, Lavender
These oils can be used in the bath, shower, as a massage or as a room spray.
Unless advised by a doctor, one should not douche with an essential oil, or anything else, for that matter.

Only the minimum quantities needed of each essential oil should be used during pregnancy.
Bath – 3
Shower – 3
Massage – 1 drop per 5ml
Room sprays-4 drops per 300ml
Light bublbs-1
(Ask a partner or friend to rub your back with this mixture regularly)
Rose, Geranium, Lavender, Chamomile Roman

Use some or all of these oils in equal proportions to a total of 30 drops per 30ml vegetable oil.
Geranium and lavender are great together.

Morning sickness
A bowl of boiling water with 4-6 drops of spearmint oil added and placed on the floor near your bed overnight. This helps to keep the stomach calm. The aroma molecules will waft up and gently do their work as you sleep. After using for 3 consecutive nights, the morning sickness should be gone.

Stretch marks
Base oil mixture which can be rubbed onto the belly:
30ml almond oil
15ml wheatgerm oil
10ml rosehip oil
5ml carrot tissue oil
Mix all together and keep in an amber medicine bottle.
Rub/massage onto tummy, breast, thighs-wherever stretch marks may appear.

Leg cramps
These can get worse as the pregnancy advances. (Caused either by the position of the baby or calcium deficiency.)
Here is a foot bath recipe that has been used to great effect:-
Geranium-5 drops
Lavender-10 drops
Cypress-2 drops
Place in a bowl of hot, not boiling water.

Here is a reviving formula that can be used as a body oil, or bath oil. It can be used before and after the birth.
Lavender-15 drops
Grapefruit-15 drops
Add to 30ml Sweet Almond/grapeseed oil. Store in a dark bottle. Use as needed.

Varicose veins
To help alleviate varicose veins:-
Geranium-15 Drops
Cypress-5 drops
Dilute in 30ml Carrier oil of choice.
Working from the ankle to the thigh, stroke the legs gently in an upward motion. The geranium encourages blood circulation. The cypress has an astringent effect on the venous system.
The oils will also help to balance the mind and alleviate doubts and anxieties. This, of course will also be good for baby as mom relaxes.
